WELCOME TO THE BTC!

“Take me for who I am, who I am meant to be.” – Rent

New and Returning Students of the Blackhawk Theatre Company:

On behalf of the Thespian board and the rest of our BTC staff, I am truly excited to welcome you!  You have chosen to become a member of an award-winning ensemble that strives for excellence in all we do.   We look forward to helping you discover and hone your unique talents.

I love being a Theatre Educator and I believe in its power. Only when you combine all other art forms – music, dance, visual art, digital art, design - do you create theatre.  And more importantly it’s the only art form you cannot do completely on your own.  Its success depends

upon the collaboration of a large group of people working towards a single goal.  This is also true of life.

Theatre teaches skills necessary for success in life. I am committed to the opening quote.  So whether you are dreaming of a career in theatre or your goals lie in science, public service or business, I know we have so much to offer you in the BTC.

In our larger performing arts department (band, choir, media) we have a common belief that I want you to embrace: Attitude counts for more than ANYTHING. Talent is great, but accomplishes little if it is not accompanied by an attitude that welcomes challenge, rejoices in others’ successes, hurts with others’ pain, and seeks to bring enjoyment to many through our art. If we are passionate and celebratory in what we are doing, that joy can only spread to other students and our audiences.

Ms. Villa, BTC Director
